How long is sick leave in Estonia?
In Estonia, employees are entitled to up to 240 paid sick leave days per year. The breakdown of responsibility for sick leave payment is as follows:
- The first 3 days are an employee's liability.
- The employer pays the benefit from day 4 to day 8 of illness.
- The Health Insurance Fund is responsible for paying the sickness benefit from day 9 of illness.
What is the process for applying for sick leave in Estonia?
In Estonia, if a supported employee cannot work due to sickness, the following procedure applies:
- The supported employee must report their illness by telephone and/or email before 9:30 a.m.
- This notification should be sent to both the supported employee's Manager and the applicable Human Resources representative.
