In Estonia, employees are entitled to up to 240 paid sick leave days per year. The breakdown of responsibility for sick leave payment is as follows:

• The first 3 days are an employee's liability.
• The employer pays the benefit from day 4 to day 8 of illness.
• The Health Insurance Fund is responsible for paying the sickness benefit from day 9 of illness.

What is the process for applying for sick leave in Estonia?

In Estonia, if a supported employee cannot work due to sickness, the following procedure applies:

• The supported employee must report their illness by telephone and/or email before 9:30 a.m.
• This notification should be sent to both the supported employee's Manager and the applicable Human Resources representative.
