What is the process for applying for sick leave in the United Arab Emirates?

In the United Arab Emirates, when a supported employee is unable to attend work for any reason, the following process should be followed for applying for sick leave:

  • The supported employee must notify Velocity Global UAE as soon as reasonably practicable on the first day and each subsequent day of the absence. This notification should include the reason for the absence and the expected date of return to work.
  • If the absence from work lasts more than 2 working days, the supported employee is required to provide a medical certificate from a medical practitioner registered by the UAE authorities upon their return to work. This certificate should cover the additional period of absence.
