Pension Benefits in Pakistan

What are the statutory pension benefits in Pakistan?

In Pakistan, statutory pension benefits are governed by the Provincial Employees' Social Security code of 1965. Each province has the authority to modify the code, including rates and eligibility criteria. The main components of these benefits are as follows:

  • Men are eligible to receive a full pension at age 60, women at age 55, and miners at age 50, provided they have contributed for a minimum of 15 years.
  • With the exception of Sindh province, early retirement is possible for men at age 55 and for women at age 50 if they have at least 15 years of contributions.

The Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) provides pension-related benefits, including old-age pensions, invalidity pensions, and old-age grants. Additionally, the Employees' Social Security Institution (ESSI) offers other types of benefits such as sick leave, maternity leave, funeral grants, medical care, survivor's pensions, disability benefits, and workers' compensation.
