In South Africa, supported employees are entitled to 30 days of paid sick leave every 36-month cycle, starting from the initial employment date. During the first six months of employment, a supported employee is entitled to one day of paid sick leave for every 26 days worked.
If a supported employee in South Africa is absent for more than 2 consecutive days, the employer may request a medical certificate proving incapacity. If the supported employee is unable to provide such a medical certificate, the employer is not required to pay the supported employee.
