How long is annual leave in Thailand?

In Thailand, supported employees are entitled to a minimum of 6 days of paid annual leave after 1 year of employment. However, it is common for employers to offer between 10-15 days of annual leave. The specific amount is determined either by the employer in advance or agreed upon mutually by the employee and employer.

How is annual leave accrued in Thailand?

In Thailand, supported employees who have worked continuously for at least 1 year are entitled to a minimum of 6 working days of annual paid leave per year. This annual leave is generally accrued on a monthly basis after the completion of 1 year of service.

What is the carry-over policy for annual leave in Thailand?

In Thailand, the policy for carrying over annual leave is not determined by law. However, employers can choose to allow it based on a prior agreement with the employee. Employers generally have two options:

  • Permit the carryover of unused leave days to the following year.
  • Require employees to forfeit any unused leave days.

How is paid time off (PTO) calculated in Thailand?

Note: Our employment agreement template states that paid annual holidays will be pro-rated based on the supported employee’s start date with Velocity Global Thailand.

In Thailand, paid time off (PTO) is calculated using the following formula:

  • Calendar days worked / fixed 30 X monthly compensation

What is the process to request annual leave in Thailand?

To request annual leave in Thailand, supported employees must follow these steps:

1. Submit the application to use annual holiday entitlements at least 5 working days in advance to the supervisor/manager.

2. The supported employee can take annual leave only after their supervisor/manager approves the application.

3. Requests for approval submitted after taking the annual leave will not be authorized.

4. Supported employees should submit their leave request through our Global Work Platform™.

Is unlimited PTO an option in Thailand, and how can it be accommodated?

Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO) is not typically an option in Thailand. Due to local customs and practices, employers in Thailand usually provide fixed PTO allocations instead of unlimited PTO plans.
