Other Benefits in Ukraine

What other statutory benefits are there in Ukraine?

Mandatory employee benefits in Ukraine are provided within the state social security system. These benefits include:

  • Pension benefits
  • Unemployment benefits
  • Death benefits
  • Short-term and long-term disability from occupational illnesses or personal accidents

Employers pay for these social security benefits through a unified social tax, which covers the pension system, unemployment benefits, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.

Details of the benefits include:

1. Short-term disability: Work-related short-term disability benefits are paid at 100% of the average salary per day of disability (the employer pays for the first 5 days, and the state fund pays the rest). For non-work-related short-term disability, the payment amount depends on the employee’s length of service.

2. Long-term disability: The compensation for work-related long-term disability depends on the level of disability and the average salary or minimum income. The state commission (the spherical disability state commission) establishes the level of disability.

3. Unemployment insurance: Compensation from the state fund for unemployment is based on the length of service, the average salary before unemployment, and the reason for unemployment. This compensation can also be provided as a single, lump-sum payment.
