In Portugal, aside from health, pension, bonus benefits, additional salaries, and allowances, employers are required to provide the following statutory benefits:

  • Workers' compensation insurance: This benefit is mandatory under Portuguese law and applies to all employees, including those with full-time, part-time, and temporary employment agreements.

  • Statutory meal benefits: Employees are entitled to receive EUR 5.45 gross per day worked. Of the total monthly meal allowance, EUR 119.90 is tax-free, and any amount exceeding this is subject to taxation.
