How is paid time off (PTO) calculated in Luxembourg?

In Luxembourg, paid time off (PTO) is calculated in the following manner:

  • Employees receive a minimum of 26 days of paid leave annually, which is prorated if they start or leave employment mid-year.
  • If applicable, the proration formula is calculated as 26 (basic holiday balance) divided by 12, multiplied by the number of months worked.
  • Leave accrual typically happens on a monthly basis, at a rate of 2.17 days per month.
  • Days taken as unpaid leave do not contribute to leave accrual.
  • Annual leave is based on 1/12th for each full month of work.

  • For part-time employees, holiday entitlement is calculated on a pro-rata basis relative to their working hours.
