How long is maternity leave in Vietnam?

A female employee in Vietnam is entitled to six months of paid maternity leave. This includes prenatal and postnatal leave, with no more than two months of the total leave being taken before the child is born. Additionally, a woman is entitled to five days of paid leave for prenatal medical appointments.

If the employee gives birth to more than one child, she is entitled to an extra 30 days of leave for each additional child.

How is maternity leave payment calculated in Vietnam?

In Vietnam, maternity leave payment is calculated as 100% of the average salary on which social insurance premiums are calculated during the last 6 months before the employee goes on leave.

How long is the paternity leave in Vietnam?

Male employees in Vietnam who are currently paying social insurance premiums are entitled to paternity leave within the first 30 days after the date of their child's birth, as follows:

  • 5 working days for a birth under normal circumstances.
  • 7 working days for a caesarean delivery or a premature baby of under 32 weeks.
  • 10 working days for twins, or an additional 3 working days for each infant from the second.
  • 14 working days for twins or more infants and a caesarean delivery.
