How is sick leave payment calculated in Croatia?
In Croatia, sick leave payment is calculated as follows:
- The employer is obligated to pay compensation for the first 42 days of sick leave.
- This compensation is equivalent to 70% of the employee's average salary for the six months prior to the sick leave.
- After the initial 42 days, the Institute for Health Insurance reimburses the employer for the remuneration.
What is the process for applying for sick leave in Croatia?
If a supported employee in Croatia is unable to work due to sickness or injury, the following procedure applies:
- The supported employee must notify their Manager and the applicable Human Resources representative as soon as possible via telephone and/or email, providing the general reasons for their absence and the anticipated duration.
- The supported employee is required to submit a medical certificate issued by their physician that states the anticipated duration of the absence. This certificate should be provided as soon as practicable, and no later than within 3 days from the start of the absence or from the cessation of special circumstances that prevented timely delivery.
