Health Benefits in Netherlands

What are the statutory health insurance benefits in the Netherlands?

In the Netherlands, all citizens must select their health insurance package before January 1 each year, with only one opportunity to change it annually. It is the responsibility of the employee to arrange their health insurance and choose their preferred package, and non-compliance may result in significant fines.

Health insurance companies in the Netherlands provide basic mandatory coverage, but employees have the option to select additional coverage, such as physiotherapy and dental treatment. Employees pay the health insurance companies directly. While some employers provide a health insurance allowance, permitting the employee to choose their preferred provider and package, it is not mandatory for employers to offer health benefits.
