Other Benefits in Saudi Arabia

What other statutory benefits are there in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi nationals enrolled in the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) in Saudi Arabia are provided the following statutory benefits:

  • Short-term disability allowance: If a supported employee is injured due to work, they are entitled to a daily allowance while disabled. This allowance can be up to 100% of the supported employee's daily wage. If GOSI covers the employee's treatment, the allowance will be 75% of the daily wage.
  • Permanent full disability: If a supported employee becomes fully disabled due to a work injury, they receive monthly payments equivalent to 100% of their average wage from the 3 months prior to the injury. This benefit lasts for 5 years, after which the employee is re-evaluated by a board of health professionals, and subsequently every 10 years.
  • Partial permanent disability benefits: A supported employee who becomes partially disabled (50%-90%) due to a work injury is entitled to payment proportional to their degree of disability.
  • Unemployment benefits: Unemployed individuals can receive benefits within 90 days of job loss, provided the termination was beyond their control. GOSI also offers support in compensation for up to 3 months in a new job, with reduced benefits for an additional 9 months.
  • Survivors' benefits: Eligible family members of a deceased contributor receive equivalent payments if the death results from a work accident. To be eligible:

- The deceased was a retired supported employee and victim of a non-work-related accident, or became disabled due to the accident.

- The deceased was actively paying into GOSI and died due to a work accident.

- The deceased contributed to GOSI for at least 3 continuous months or 6 non-continuous months.

- The deceased had paid into GOSI for a total of 120 months as a retiree.

  • Voluntary contribution benefits: Additional benefits such as old-age pension, early retirement pension, non-work-related disability pension, and death pension are available through voluntary contributions.

For expatriates in Saudi Arabia, GOSI offers specific benefits:

  • Occupational hazard benefits: Expatriates injured at work are eligible for GOSI to cover half of the insurance claim, with a cap. A medical report must be provided.
  • Permanent disability benefits: If an expatriate becomes permanently disabled due to a work accident, GOSI pays for the entire cost of their travel back to their home country before departure.
  • Traffic accident injury benefits: Expatriates are eligible for payment if:

- Injured in a traffic accident while traveling to or from work.
