How long is sick leave in the Republic of Turkiye?

Employees in the Republic of Türkiye who have made at least 90 days of contributions to the social security system are eligible for paid sick leave for up to 1 week in cases of illness or recovery, provided they supply a medical report. Additionally, employees who have made at least 30 days of contributions are entitled to medical benefits. If needed, sick leave can be extended without pay. Contributions for sick leave benefits are made by the employee, employer, and government into the social security system.

What is the process for applying for sick leave in the Republic of Turkiye?

To apply for sick leave in the Republic of Turkiye, an employee must follow these steps:

  • The employee who is ill and unable to attend work is required to notify their manager and the appropriate Human Resources representative of their absence before 9:30 a.m. via telephone and/or email.
  • From the first day of absence, the employee must provide the employer with a medical report of sick leave, which must include the anticipated duration of their inability to work.
  • If the period of the employee's inability to work extends beyond the original duration, the medical report must be renewed accordingly.
