How long is sick leave in Hungary?

In Hungary, employees are entitled to 15 working days of sick leave per year if they are unable to work due to illness. This entitlement does not include leave for industrial accidents, specific illnesses covered by social insurance, or incapacity due to high-risk pregnancy. A physician must verify the illness.

Employees who start during the year are entitled to a proportionate amount of sick leave based on the remaining time in the year.

What is the process for applying for sick leave in Hungary?

To apply for sick leave in Hungary, a supported employee must follow these steps:

  • The supported employee must report the illness by telephone and/or email before 9:30 a.m. to both their manager and the applicable Human Resources representative from Pebl.
  • The supported employee is required to visit a doctor to obtain a sick leave notice starting from day 1 of the illness.
  • An electronic copy of the sick leave notice must be emailed to the appropriate contact for processing.
  • The original sick leave notice must be sent to the office for record-keeping purposes.
