Health Benefits in Saudi Arabia

What are the statutory health insurance benefits in Saudi Arabia?

In Saudi Arabia, employers are required to provide health insurance to their employees and their dependents, which include the spouse and children, but not parents. This requirement applies to both local nationals and expatriates. Key aspects of statutory health insurance benefits are as follows:

  • Health insurance coverage is available through various levels of benefits and hospital networks. Employers must ensure that employees and their dependents are enrolled with the designated insurance provider.

  • Saudi nationals enrolled in the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) have access to medical care benefits, which include treatment at top-tier hospitals for injuries, as well as medical supplies and medicines.

  • Under the Cooperative Health Insurance Law, employers must guarantee access to preventative and therapeutic care, including medical care related to pregnancy and maternity for female employees.

  • Employers are responsible for providing Saudi employees exposed to occupational diseases with an annual medical examination at the employer's expense. Employers must also maintain records of these examinations in the employee’s individual file.
