How long is sick leave in Vietnam?

In Vietnam, the length of sick leave varies based on the nature of the employee's work:

  • For employees working under normal conditions, the sick leave duration ranges from 30 to 60 days.
  • For employees involved in heavy, hazardous, or dangerous occupations, or in jobs considered extremely heavy or unsafe, the sick leave duration ranges from 40 to 70 days.

During sick leave, employees receive a monthly allowance equivalent to 75% of their monthly salary on which social insurance premiums are based.

How is sick leave payment calculated in Vietnam?

The sickness benefit in Vietnam is calculated as follows:

  • The benefit is equal to 75% of the insured's wages.
  • It is payable for up to 30 days in a calendar year if the insured has fewer than 15 years of covered employment.
  • Sick pay is covered by the social insurance fund.

What is the process for applying for sick leave in Vietnam?
